Reconstructive options for failed flatfoot surgery.Rush SM Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Kaiser Foundation Hospital, 1425 S. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, USA. shannon.m.rush@kp.org Failure of flatfoot reconstruction can occur in many ways. Revision surgery must address the residual deformity if one exists, restore strength and balance to the foot and ankle, and address persistent joint pain. Assessment of the talometatarsal axis, hindfoot alignment, and medial column insufficiency is critical in selection of the appropriate surgical procedure. Arthrodesis of joints that are degenerative and unstable will ensure that the symptom relief will mirror radiographic results. Published 2 October 2007 in Clin Podiatr Med Surg, 24(4): 779-88.
